rispost Bad Beat Fun

May 1st, 2008

Here is one of my latest ‘bad-beats’:

Playing Omaha the flop is 7-7-10 and I have pocket 10’s. I check the flop to see if I can spot someone with a 7 and maybe they will bet and I will make some cash. Nobody bets the flop and a K comes on the turn, the first player bets $200 and I raise all-in, an extra $290. We open and sure enough he had 7-K. The river comes and low-and-behold it is a 7….bad, bad beat. This is a friendly cash game and bad beats ussualy get a scratch-and-win lottery ticket but there was none left.

I was thinking I maybe should have bet $100 on the flop but I would have gotten called by the same player because he had trips and no matter what I bet on the turn (if I had more cash) he would have had to call, so I guess I was destined to lose that hand. Feel free to leave comments about your own bad beats.

rispost Casino Personalities

November 15th, 2007

So yesterday I went to the casino to play 5-10 limit hold ‘em and here are 10 reasons I like playing there as opposed to an online casino.

1 spot - mid 40’s hippie, plays a lot of hands and likes to roll his eyes everytime he got rivered, which was often.

2nd spot - young asian guy, talked non-stop about how if he could just win a couple more big hands he could go home.

3rd spot - angry shaved head guy, liked to complain everytime someone beat him with crappy hole cards.

4th spot - Nice old guy, around 65-70 years old, good balanced player caught a lot of nice hands.

5th spot - Moi, pretty tight but plays some ‘flyer’.

6th spot - Nice older lady, British accent missed a lot of straights and flushes, lost around $400 during the few hours I was there.

7th spot - Middle aged Asian guy, pretty tight and quiet.

8th spot - Late 50’s, also quiet and tight player.

9th spot - Very tight middle aged guy likes to smile and talk to him neighbours a lot, only plays ace-picture or higher.

10th spot - Very tight player, middle aged with a little slcked back hair. Also likes to play ace-picture and better.

11th spot - My buddy, loud annoying….won the first hand after sitting down and called out he had “nuts” which was really 7th nuts. Everytime he won a hand he would tell the dealer to “ship” his chips.

The point is that sometimes sitting in at the casino can be fun and entertaining, where as the online casino can be a bit boring. At the end of the night I lost $60 but had fun.

rispost My Hobby - Blackjack

November 9th, 2007

Hi and welcome to my hobby! My personal hobby is gambling, I just love the idea of pitting myself against the house in a battle of wits to try and come out the winner. Blackjack is my game of choice and I have studied many books on the subject. The reason I love blackjack so much is because if played properly the house only has a very slight edge, less than 2.6%. Which means with proper play and good money managment I am able to win more often than not.

Personally I like to play blackjack in person at a brick and mortar casino. But with the popularity of online casino gambling I get a chance to play a lot more. Tuesday nights is my online blackjack night and nothing (except maybe a hot-date) ever gets in the way. My limit is $20 and if I turn it into $100 I quit. So far for the year 2007 I am up a grand total of $330!! Not much I know but I love the thrill of winning and beating the casino.

rispost Poker for the Masses

November 1st, 2007

“A Harvard Law School professor best known for defending the man who leaked the Pentagon Papers and for helping parents sue chemical companies in a case popularized by the film “A Civil Action” has a new cause: poker.

“Charles Nesson wants governments to relax restrictions on poker players. He has formed the Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society with some of his students to promote poker as a fun learning tool and to redefine it as a game of skill, rather than a game of chance.

“‘I’d like to legitimate poker as an educational instrument,’ Nesson said. ‘It’s a great way to learn and practice the skills of seeing what things look like from another person’s point of view.’

“Locally, Nesson wants to loosen Massachusetts’ limits on small-scale poker tournaments.  With the number of poker tournaments shown on TV I think this is a natural extention.

rispost Oh Dear, Diapers for Gamblers…

May 11th, 2007

It looks like a sign that gambling addiction is going mainstream.  A company in Kitchener, Ont., is advertising specially designed adult diapers on the Internet for $35 each - two for $60 - and say they are a perfect fit for “gamblers at all-night casinos.”

They hold nine cups of fluid, are made of six layers of cotton and micro-fibre, dry in an hour, are reusable and come stylishly in white or burgundy with Velcro closures.

On a side note, The B.C. government reported revenues of more than $980 million last year from the Crown-owned B.C. Lottery Corp. These would come in handy for those long bingo nights too!

rispost Yahoo Goes Poker

April 30th, 2007

Yahoo!, one of the biggest search engines and Internet portals, has entered the online poker world with the addition of real-money poker to the games section of its UK operations.

Yahoo! Launched the online poker room in partnership with Gibraltar-based  St Minver, one of Europe’s largest gaming operators. Boss Media, which also supports the powerful gaming operators SportingBet, Bwin, and William Hill, will provide the poker software platform.

The new poker site does not accept players from the U.S., due to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which makes it illegal for credit card companies and banks to accept money transfers to and from online gambling sites.

Yahoo! is the only Internet Service Provider (ISP) to offer play for real money. The YAHOO! UK & Ireland Games Web site also offers real money Bingo. The new site will focus on the growing European poker market.

rispost What to do about online Poker Burnout

September 8th, 2006

Well it finally happened, I have gotten sick and tired of playing online poker.  So many crazy folks and annoying players.  I need a break, thank god for the blackjack casino it is the perfect way to recharge my dying gambling battery.

Upon my return to poker I think I will sign up somewhere brand-spanking new and become one of those annoying players.  I will make every decision at the last possible second and see how fast I can clear the table!  Be careful if you sit down to play with LardA$$ because that might just be me.
